LA Singer-Songwriter Ashley Ann Serves Up ‘Lemons,’ Freshly Squeezed and Full of Hope

Written in her college dorm room, “Lemons” is about choosing to find the good in the bad. It is the lead single from her upcoming EP, Tools of Survival.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, October 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Independent Los Angeles-based vocalist and songwriter Ashley Ann is building her debut EP Tools of Survival one honest song at a time, and “Lemons” is the first taste the world is getting of it.

Tools of Survival is a seven-song body of work about self-discovery and resilience — the idea that everyone assembles their own toolkit for getting through hard things, and no one’s looks quite like anyone else’s. “Lemons” is the project’s lead single — the first song fans are hearing, even though it lands second in the eventual full tracklist — and it captures the whole idea in miniature: finding the good in the bad.

Ashley Ann wrote the song in her college dorm room while reflecting on how far she had come. The kid who had been bullied and told she couldn’t amount to anything was now proud of who she had become, and that realization birthed a beautiful song concept: You can always choose to find the good in the bad.

Musically, Ashley Ann’s sound draws on jazz-inflected melodies and Latin percussion, filtered through a contemporary pop lens and shaped by an ear for Old Hollywood film scoring — cinematic, vocal-forward, and unafraid of a little nostalgia. As both an underdog and a champion of the underdog, she writes songs for anyone learning to turn their own struggles into strength.

“The core of what ‘Lemons’ is about is learning to always find the good in a bad situation,” says Ashley Ann. “It’s better to try and fail than always wonder with regret what would’ve happened or what would’ve been. You don’t have to love your struggles to eventually be grateful for what they gave you.”

“Lemons” is streaming now everywhere, with the rest of Tools of Survival — including “I Wish I Didn’t Care,” “Underestimated,” “Caught In The Grey,” “Because of You (To Gram),” “That’s What Mirrors Are For,” and “Becoming” — still to come.
